Ms. Catarina C. Jakovac
Catarina Jakovac is a Brazilian ecologist interested in the processes underlying forest regeneration and restoration. For more than 10 years she has been investigating forest regrowth and land use dynamics in the Amazon and the Neotropics. In 2015 she completed her PhD at Wageningen University on the “Resilience of Amazonian landscapes to agricultural intensification”. After that she worked as a postdoc at the International Institute for Sustainability in Rio de Janeiro, where she joined the team of Bernardo Strassburg to try and model the priority areas for ecosystem restoration in Brazil and in the Globe. Since 2019 she is a postdoc at Wageningen University taking part on the coordination of the 2ndFOR network on secondary forests.
Catarina joins efforts to bridge science and public policies, contributing to the Science Panel for the Amazon and the civil-society organization Alliance for the Restoration of Amazonia and co-coordinating the Synthesis Project REGENERA to identify indicators for monitoring forest regrowth.
