Mr. Claudio Chiarolla
Dr. Claudio Chiarolla is the Programme Management Officer responsible for technical and scientific cooperation and technology transfer at the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity. Previously, he worked for 3 years with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) as the Regional Project Specialist for Central and Eastern Europe, Arab and Southern Africa Countries of the UNDP-GEF Global ABS Project. In this capacity, he promoted implementation of the Nagoya Protocol in Albania, Belarus, Botswana, Jordan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, South Africa and lately Comoros. Before then, he served for 2 years as Legal Officer in the Traditional Knowledge Division at the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). From 2010 to 2015, Dr. Chiarolla was Research Fellow on International Governance of Biodiversity at the Institute for Sustainable Development and International Relations (IDDRI) and Lecturer at Sciences Po Paris. He was also a Senior Advisor to the Italian Ministry for the Environment, Land and Sea, and a negotiator for the Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union during CBD COP 12. Dr. Chiarolla holds a Ph.D. in international and comparative intellectual property law from Queen Mary, University of London, and a Master’s Degree in Advanced International Legal Studies from the Universities of Verona, Catania and Geneva.
